Is the 12 Pro worth it?
The RedMagic 12 Pro is worth waiting on for most buyers: 3 critics average 7.9 out of 10, praising the gaming performance, 185Hz display and big battery but faulting the cameras, software support and $899 price. This page is a consensus of published reviews, not hands-on testing.
What critics loved
Performance is the headline. TechRadar called it barnstorming and praised the superb stamina, while Trusted Reviews singled out excellent sustained gaming performance from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 paired with RedCore R5. GSMArena highlighted the active cooling alongside the chip and gave the phone 4.3 out of 5.
The display also won praise. The 6.85-inch AMOLED runs up to 185Hz, and both TechRadar and Trusted Reviews liked that it is free of notches and obstructions, thanks to the under-display selfie camera. Trusted Reviews cited a peak brightness of up to 5000 nits.
The 8400mAh battery with 80W wired and wireless charging drew praise from Trusted Reviews, and TechRadar also noted fast 80W charging and improved speakers. Trusted Reviews added that the customizable shoulder triggers and Game Space tools suit gamers well.
Where it falls short
Cameras and software are the weak points. TechRadar said the cameras are not good enough for the money and described the under-display selfie camera as poor. Trusted Reviews agreed the selfie camera still lags behind, and noted there is no telephoto lens.
Software support is a shared complaint. TechRadar called it poor, and Trusted Reviews pointed to only two years of OS upgrades.
Price is where the critics diverge most. TechRadar said the phone is much more expensive than before, at $899, and it scored the phone lowest at 3.5 out of 5, calling it a less appealing all-rounder than its predecessors. It also found sustained performance weaker than the predecessor, which contrasts with Trusted Reviews, which called sustained performance excellent. Trusted Reviews also said the fan can get loud.
Who should buy it
This is a phone for mobile gamers who want top-tier chip performance, a bright high-refresh screen and multi-day-style stamina, and who care less about photography. Buyers who want a balanced all-rounder, long update support or a strong selfie camera are better served waiting, ideally for a lower price or a clearer picture of long-term support.
