Sony announced the Prism Collection on October 28, 2026: transparent DualSense controllers and matching PS5 console covers in three colors. Preorders open on November 10, and the collection launches on February 4, 2027, according to The Verge.
Key facts
- Colors: Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray, per TechRadar.
- Controller price: $84.99 in the US, £74.99 in the UK and €84.99 in Europe.
- Console cover price: $74.99, £64.99 and €74.99.
- US preorders open November 10, 2026, at 7 am PT and 10 am ET through PlayStation Direct, according to Digital Trends.
- Global launch: February 4, 2027, though dates and availability may vary by region.
What the design offers
The controllers have a high-gloss clear finish that extends across the back, giving a view of the internal components, according to Engadget. The console covers are more limited. Wired reports that they reveal only the fan and a few other components, while Digital Trends adds that they have metallic center panels contrasting with clear outer sections.
Sony designer Leo Cardoso said the goal was to bring back the late '90s see-through trend "in a fresh, modern way" that suits the PS5's industrial design, as quoted by TechRadar.
Pricing in context
Wired notes the Prism prices sit at the higher end of existing options. Basic color controllers start at $74 on the PlayStation website, and covers start around $59, with more colorful versions costing more. TechRadar describes the controller price as a little above the standard model but in line with other special editions.
Outlets differ slightly on where to buy. The Verge says preorders run through PlayStation's online store and participating retailers. Digital Trends says console covers will be sold directly by PlayStation in several countries, including the US, UK and some European markets, with limited stock elsewhere through other retailers.
Why it matters
The launch fits a wider revival of transparent hardware. TechRadar points to Microsoft's translucent green Xbox Series X, and The Verge notes that Microsoft announced that 25th-anniversary console earlier this year. Wired traces the look to Apple's original iMac and notes its use in the PlayStation 2 and Game Boy Color. Engadget adds that Sony has offered see-through gamepads since the PS1 era.
The Prism line is cosmetic only and changes no hardware. For buyers, the price premium over standard colors is the main consideration.
What to watch next
Watch the November 10 preorder window for stock levels, since TechRadar expects strong demand, a prediction rather than a confirmed fact. Regional availability and pricing outside the US, UK and Europe have not been detailed in the sources. Gadgets 360 says the accessories launch in February 2027 but gives no India pricing.
